Referring a Client for a Yacht Purchase in the Balearics: How the Brokerage Relationship Works

How yacht sales & brokerage referrals actually work for concierge companies, family offices and advisors — off-market access, commission structure and what it costs the client.

Referring a Client for a Yacht Purchase in the Balearics: How the Brokerage Relationship Works

Most of what's written for concierge companies and family offices about yacht referrals covers charter — this is the other half: what happens when a client wants to buy or sell, and what that means for whoever made the introduction.

It's a different referral than charter

A charter referral is a single booking with a defined end date. A yacht purchase referral is a longer relationship — sourcing, valuation, survey, negotiation, closing — and the advisor or concierge desk that made the introduction is often still the client's point of contact for management and future charter once the purchase is done. It's worth treating as a different kind of referral from the start, not an extension of a charter enquiry.

Off-market access, specifically

Off-market access means yachts for sale that aren't listed on public brokerage platforms — reached through direct owner relationships or pre-listing conversations. For a buyer, that means seeing options before they hit the open market; for a seller, it means a quieter process without a public listing history. It's the main practical difference between working with a locally embedded operator and browsing public listings directly.

What it costs the client — and what it doesn't

Industry-standard yacht brokerage commission runs broadly in the 8–10% range of the sale price, paid by the seller to their broker. A buyer's broker is typically compensated by sharing in that same commission rather than charging the buyer separately — a structure that holds generally across yacht brokerage, not something specific to any one operator. Referral and commission terms for the introducing advisor or concierge desk are agreed individually per partner, the same way as our charter referral program, and covered under a standard confidentiality agreement rather than a published rate.

Discreet valuations and technical coordination

A valuation done quietly — without triggering market speculation about a yacht being for sale — and technical coordination through survey and sea trial are where a local operator earns the referral. This runs alongside the licensing and insurance checks worth verifying on any Balearic operator before a referral goes out.

Working with us on a purchase referral

We handle purchase and sale referrals the same way as charter — one dedicated point of contact, discretion by default, and terms agreed directly with your desk. Details on the referral relationship are on our partner page, the brokerage service itself is outlined on our buy & sell page, and ground logistics for a client visiting to view a yacht are covered on our concierge page.
